Chapter 14

ENYA

“Enya, tell me right here, right now, what you want to do!” Mike yelled while speeding.

“Mike, baby, please slow down. We can talk about it when we get home.”

“Baby my ass, tell me now, or I will run this fucking car into a wall!”

I was sitting in the passenger seat shitting bricks as he weaved in and out of traffic. I had to think fast because I knew he would do it. Over the past few weeks, Mike had turned into a complete monster. The only time he acted normal was when we were around mine or his parents. Thank God our weekly dinner was at our house this week. I prayed my parents had beaten us to the house because there was no way in hell I was going in that house alone with him being this upset. I didn’t feel like fighting, and he would try and kill me as mad as he is. I can’t believe Blanco would say some shit like that. He has no clue what he did.

“Oh, you think it’s a game huh!?” he spat, swerving the car.

“No, I don’t, Mike! I don’t want anyone but you. Please, just slow down.”

I was relieved when we pulled up to our house and saw my mother’s car and my parents standing outside. Mike quickly wiped the sweat from his face and changed his demeanor, and I did the same. I have so much tied up in Mike that it would take me months to get everything that belongs to me. Now I understand what the older ladies use to mean when they said, “never let your right hand know what your left hand is doing.” I put too much in to just pull out, and I want everything that belongs to me, so I must step lightly.

The man was like a fucking Chucky doll, and in a matter of seconds he turned into a “good guy.” We both pulled ourselves together before stepping out of the car. We were only out the car for a second before his parents pulled up. I silently thanked God for sparing me. He walked around and opened the door for me like he always did in their presence.

“Hey baby girl, how you feeling?” my father asked, kissing my forehead.

I wanted to tell him the truth, but instead, I lied and said fine. My mother stared at me for a few seconds like she was reading me, so I quickly looked away. After greeting his parents, Mike motioned for everyone to walk ahead of us as he placed his hand on the small of my back. I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes as he pinched my side as hard as he could.

“MIKE!” I yelled, causing everyone to stop in their tracks and look at me.

“What’s wrong, baby?” he asked calmly.

“Nothing, I thought I forgot something in the car,” I lied, stepping in front of everyone to unlock the door.

Once inside I went straight up to our room to change so that I could join the ladies in the kitchen.
